Lining an Anaerobic Digester
Australasian Specialty Coatings was contracted to apply a high-performance lining system to the inside of a new Anaerobic Digester – a steel tank system that contains organic waste being broken down by selected bacteria.
- Working inside the tank – a Confined Space
- Full abrasive blast to NACE SP3
- Zinc-rich epoxy primer
- High performance chemical resistant polyester lining
- High pressure airless spray application
- Stripe coats for multiple welds, seams
Australasian Specialty Coatings worked out an access plan for the Confined Space with gas monitoring, exit plans and access equipment.
A crane was used to place the blasting and coating equipment and dust collectors for safe and reliable use.
To meet the specifications for the product and meet the delivery date, specific times of day were identified for blasting and spraying to get the right temperatures and ambient conditions.
Finally, testing of every stage was completed to beyond the required standards for Quality Control and peace of mind.
The digesters have been in use for 5 years now with no problems arising in yearly inspections.
The project was completed on time and on budget, and Australasian Specialty Coatings went on to apply a corrosion protection coating to the outside of the tanks as well.
