Acid/Chemical Resistant Coatings
Many operations have areas where unusual or aggressive chemicals must be stored and handled. Oils, cleaning detergents, CIP chemicals, batteries and strong acids and alkalis used in production processes all attack and break down concrete and many corrode steel.
Australasian Specialty Coatings can select and install specialist or custom-formulated materials designed to resist chemical attack and contain dangerous chemicals.
We will consider every chemical agent to which a surface may be exposed and then assign the right materials for the task. Immersion Coatings and Tank Linings
Very special attention needs to be paid to coating and lining systems that spend their life immersed in liquids.
These coatings are usually very specific to the environment in which they are installed. They are chemically formulated to ensure that the substrate is completely isolated from the liquid being contained. Detailed preparation, installation and testing is required to complete a successful installation.
Australasian Specialty Coatings work with clients and suppliers to understand the nature of the surface to be coated, the chemistry of the environment and the best materials and methods for the task.

Most coatings are designed to protect a surface or asset from aggressive attack by abrasion, impact or corrosion.
A sacrificial coating may be chosen when it is impossible to repel the attack, or if a sacrificial coating is more affordable over the life of the asset. The coating is abraded and depleted over time and is designed to be regularly replaced or topped up.
Sacrificial coatings can be various levels of thickness and strength to achieve different results. Longevity can be tailored to the environment, budgets and maintenance schedule.
Common areas for sacrificial surfaces to be used are:
- Areas of high friction and high shear – turning zones, loading ramps, tipping floors
- Areas holding abrasive materials – raw materials holding yards, mining processes
- Areas with aggressive chemicals – waste transfer stations, surge tanks
- Impact areas and drop zones
A waste transfer station tipping floor, where tons of raw materials are tipped before being bulldozed to an adjacent compactor, is subject to the impact of the material as it is unloaded, the intense friction of the material and the steel bucket edge of the front end loader as the waste is moved across the surface, and the chemical attack of the liquids from the waste.
A well designed sacrificial layer can be worn away slowly, preserving the concrete slab beneath.

High Temperature Coatings
High-temperature coatings are designed to prevent the corrosion of metal surfaces which are exposed not only to high heat, but to high humidity, condensation, corrosive gases, and salt air environments.
These coatings must be designed specifically for each particular harsh, corrosive situation and must be able to cope with extreme conditions placed upon them. High temperature coatings need a track history to prove their capabilities as many coatings claim to offer longevity in such aggressive conditions but very few do.
