ASC — Food Factory Upgrade
Rooty Hill , NSW
Brief & Reason For Repair
- The client approached ASC asking for a large section of floor in the main manufacturing line area of the facility to be upgraded
- The floor was non slip & unsafe for workers due to the buildup of oils and fats on the floor from the product being manufactured
- The floor was cracking , chipping and unsafe in most areas making the client non compliant with food health & safety standards
- Work needed to be carried out over 3 days during the Easter shutdown
Preparation Of Holes
- The floor was uneven and unsuitable in its current condition.
- Expansion joints were cracked and open due to years of wear and tear and liquid penetration.
- Cracking throughout the substrate & underneath machinery posing a structural threat
- Rotting residue underneath existing flooring exposure to oils without proper protection can cause liquid to penetrate and holes to open up
- Holes were cut out , ground back to solid healthy concrete & then filled in with an epoxy mortar
Preparation Of Floor
- The main section of floor was completely ground back to ensure all of the previous floor which had failed had been removed alongside the oils that had sunk into the substrate
- Cracks were filled with an epoxy resin and the floor was then vacuumed to remove any debris or dust that could potentially affect the bond between the substrate and epoxy
- The floor is now ready for the first epoxy coat
Installation Of 1st Epoxy Coat
- The first layer of epoxy was installed throughout the whole section to seal any pin holes , level the floor and provide a solid , chemical resistant foundation for the second coat.
- Upon completion of installing the first coat , the floor was then broadcasted to provide a non slip finish which would ensure worker safety
- The first coat was then left to cure over night allowing the team to apply the second coat the next morning
Top Coat
- The floor was vacuumed to remove any debris from the previous days activities & broadcasting making sure that the final finish would have no blemishes
- A final sealant coat was then applied across the whole section of floor to add a second layer of protection against harsh chemicals & fats as well as an aesthetic look to the work area
- The coating was left overnight to dry and was ready for business activities to begin the next morning
